Decision Issued to Set Price Cap on Domestic Worker Recruitment

January 24, 2022

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, announced the decision of the Committee Tasked with Determining Maximum Prices and Profit Ratios No. (1) of 2022 to set a price cap on domestic worker recruitment.

This decision comes within the framework of joint efforts of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Labour to combat the rise in the cost of domestic worker recruitment and to control the domestic labour market, in accordance with specific regulations that protect all concerned parties.

The Ministries stated that, according to the new decision, the price cap on the recruitment of domestic workers shall be set as follows:

No. State Recruitment maximum price
1 Indonesia 17,000 QAR
2 Sri Lanka 16,000 QAR
3 Philippines 15,000 QAR
4 Bangladesh 14,000 QAR
5 India 14,000 QAR
6 Kenya 9,000 QAR
7 Ethiopia 9,000 QAR

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Labour confirmed that work would be done, according to the competence of each Ministry, to intensify inspection campaigns that aim to ensure that local recruitment offices of domestic workers comply with the decision of the Committee Tasked with Determining Maximum Prices and Profit Ratios No. (1) of 2022, as well as to monitor the extent to which concerned parties comply with their stipulated obligations, and to control any violations in this regard.

The Ministry of Labour had announced earlier this January that it would implement additional procedures concerning recruitment offices. These measures include extending the probationary period for workers from three to nine months.
