The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has conducted a sudden inspection campaign on the retail shops that provide services to customers in Sealine area and owners of winter camps which included shops selling food, and electrical materials, restaurants, bike rental shops and auto repair shops.
The inspection campaign comes within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to monitor markets and commercial activities in a bid to crack down on price manipulation and protect consumer rights.
The inspection campaign resulted in 6 violations varied between failing to announce product/service prices, failing to clearly announce product/service prices, failing to issue bills which clearly violates Article (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection, which states that the supplier is obliged to clearly include the price of the product or the service when displaying or advertising it.
It should be noted that a fine of 6,000QR was issued for every violated shop, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Consumer Protection Anti-Commercial Fraud department.
The ministry stressed that it will not tolerate any violations of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations, and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on violations. The ministry said it will refer those who violate laws and ministerial decrees to competent authorities, who will in turn take appropriate action against perpetrators in order to protect consumer rights.
