The National Committee on Trade

About the Committee

The National Committee on Trade was formed in 2001 under Cabinet Resolution No. (4).

The committee’s main objective is to coordinate with both the private and public sector to maximize the benefits of the State of Qatar’s membership in the World Trade Organization in such a manner that realizes the sustainable development’s objectives of Qatar.

Committee Vision

The Committee vision is: “to maximize the benefits of Qatar’s membership with the WTO by providing support to state projects and initiatives as well as raising awareness among various economic sectors to support the development of the Qatari economy. The Committee is implementing its vision through a well-defined approach that ensures the highest standards of sustainability in line with the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

The Committee’s work plan for the period from 01.04.2010 till 31.03.2011 includes: taking the appropriate measures and actions to enable Qatari businessmen to make the most of the WTO agreement; raising awareness among businessmen about their rights under the WTO agreement; explaining to them how to conduct their businesses in a manner that does not infringe the state’s obligations toward the WTO; and establishing the appropriate communication channels between the Committee and other government bodies to educate them on issues related to the WTO. The Committee’s work plan also includes supervising sector specific studies conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce; ensuring the ministry’s effective participation in negotiations over the trade facilitation agreement; drafting proposals to enhance commercial policies; and providing technical support to improve employees’ performance at ministries and other government bodies.
