Ministry of Economy and Commerce wraps up workshops on ease of doing business
The Technical Committee to Study the Indicators of International Reports Relating to the Business Environment in Qatar at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce wrapped up on Wednesday March 14, 2018, a series of workshops organized in cooperation with the World Bank Group on the ease of doing business. The workshops brought together members of the technical committee, concerned government entities representatives, businessmen and representatives of private sector along with investors and entrepreneurs.
On the second day of workshops, participants finalized discussions over the methodology used by the World Bank to analyze each component of the different indicators identified by the Bank to improve procedures relating to the business environment in Qatar. Speakers tackled the mechanisms behind five indicators including the enforcement of contracts, settlement of insolvency cases, access to credit, protection of small investors, cross-border trade.
For his part, HE Yahya bin Saeed Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, Assistant Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, and Chairman of the Technical Committee commended speakers and participants, highlighting the importance of the workshops and discussions in terms of outlining the numerous aspects of business-related procedures to participants.
HE noted that a future plan of action would be prepared in cooperation with the World Bank on the measures to be undertaken by the committee to improve Qatar’s ease of doing business ranking, which would reflect positively on Qatar’s ranking on international reports relating to the business environment as well as efforts aimed at developing the business sector, attracting domestic and foreign investments and accelerating national economic growth to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.
HE also noted that the committee will continue to coordinate with and inform the World Bank of the latest developments relating to the business environment in Qatar in terms of all 10 indicators.
The Cabinet issued a decision in July 2017 to establish the Technical Committee to Study the Indicators of International Reports Relating to the Business Environment in Qatar at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. The committee brings together representatives of six ministries: Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, and Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, as well as Qatar Central Bank, the Supreme Judicial Council, and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation.
The committee is responsible for studying and analyzing reports issued by international organizations on the business environment in Qatar, and proposing policies for developing mechanisms and systems applied by various authorities. The committee also works in coordination with the relevant authorities to improve country’s ranking on international reports relating to the business environment in Qatar.
