On the sidelines of the meetings of the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee held in Doha on 9-10 May 2018, Qatar and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in the field of consumer protection.
H.E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, and H.E Darwish bin Ismail bin Ali Al Bulushi, Oman’s Minister of Finance, co-signed the MoU
The memorandum of understanding aims to extend technical, legal and technical cooperation in consumer-related fields, particularly consumer protection policies, in accordance with applicable legislation in both countries. The MoU aims to facilitate cooperation through the development of a mechanism to promote consumer awareness, safeguard consumer rights, control fluctuations and abnormal increases in prices, and establish coping mechanisms. Based on the MoU, each party shall conduct inspections in his country, notify the other party of any violations by suppliers, and compel suppliers to recall or withdraw defective goods from markets.
