Minister of Business and Trade: UNCTAD Promotes Global Development Efforts

HE the Minister of Business and Trade, Sheikh Jassim Bin Abdel Aziz Al Thani said on Sunday that the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development is furnishing an ample opportunity to continue contribution to global efforts towards sustained development.
Addressing the 13thUNCTAD meeting in Doha, he stressed that Qatar’s commitment to the cause of development is doubtless, as it is cooperating bilaterally with the international community to promote development on the national level. He also noted that Qatar has completed the infrastructure needed to educate and train required cadres for sustained development. He, meanwhile, referred to Qatar’s cooperation on the global level to promote issues of development.
HE Sheikh Jassim Bin Abdel Aziz Al Thani cited Qatar’s hosting of the second summit of the South which included the group of 77 of developing countries and China, as well as the international conference on following up of the financing of development.
He also referred to Qatar’s National Vision of 2030 serving as a framework for development of strategies and national plans implementation.
He said the national vision is encountering five challenges, namely preservation of traditions, meeting the requirements of the present and future generations, guaranteeing the management of development and preventing overheating, optimal use of expatriate manpower  and maintaining economic  and social development, environment management through diversifying the economic base on scientific foundations.
Qatar’s National Vision of 2030 is designed to realize development on four pillars, namely the development of human, social, economic and  development resources, he explained.
HE said Qatar’s presidency of the UNCTAD coincides  with the 50th anniversary of the setting up of the conference and is looking forward to  celebrating the anniversary. As part of Qatar’s contribution,  it will participate in the celebrations marking the realization of the development goals of the Millennium in 2015,the minister added.
