Bidding period extended for investment opportunities to transform the old Doha Exhibition Center into a modern and integrated entertainment city

The Technical Committee to Stimulate Private Sector Participation in Economic Development Projects at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in coordination with the Qatar Tourism Authority, has announced the extension of the tender period for investment opportunities to transform the old Doha Exhibition Center into a modern and integrated entertainment city until Sunday, 2nd July, 2017. The period was extended at the request of investors.
 
The investment opportunities come within the framework of the state’s efforts to encourage the private sector’s participation in economic development projects, particularly in tourism projects, and to give companies the opportunity to innovate and take advantage of opportunities for the establishment of integrated and diversified tourism projects that attract all segments of society through the establishment of integrated tourist attractions.
 
According to the project master plan, a total area of 84,875 square meters has been allocated for investment, including a 57,600 square meters built-up, 26,075 square meters for parking lots, 1,200 square meters for outdoor yards, 14,992 square meters for exhibition areas and 479 square meters for shops.
 
Hall and facilities for development and use
 
Investors will be awarded 25-year contracts for the development of halls and facilities to build a modern and integrated entertainment city. The proposals for the development of creative indoor and outdoor areas will include: the construction of shops, restaurants, nurseries, parking, public areas and other licensed tourist activities.
 
Bidding Procedures
 
Investors can obtain the tender documents from the procurement section of the financial and administrative department at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce Tower B, 4th floor, after showing an authorization letter from the company.
Bids must be enclosed by a tender bond or certified cheque under the name of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, issued by one of the banks operating in Qatar and valid until the contract is fully implemented, including the maintenance period, according to the terms and conditions of the tender.
 
The Committee said tenders shall be placed in closed and stamped envelopes addressed to the Chairman of the Tenders and Auctions Committee, and shall be delivered to the secretariat of the Committee at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. Inquiries should be addressed to the procurement section at the financial and administrative affairs department during the bidding period and until 10 days before the bid closing date.
 
The Technical Committee to Stimulate Private Sector Participation in Economic Development Projects at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce is a sub-committee of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, with representatives from different government agencies as the Prime Minister’s office, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Energy and Industry, Ministry of Transport and Communications, State Audit Bureau (as an observer), Public Works Authority, Manateq, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “Kahramaa”, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Chamber, and Qatar Development Bank.
 
The committee focuses on stimulating the participation of the private sector in economic development projects, by proposing projects that engage both government and private sectors, and suggesting ways to support and stimulate the private sector through necessary standards and regulations, land allocation policies, and policies relating to project tenders and auctions, and supervising their implementation.
