Out of the ministry’s role to protect the consumer’s rights and fight against all defected and counterfeit goods that do not comply with the standard specifications, and out of the ministry’s keenness to oblige all suppliers to comply with the health and safety conditions through all the products and services offered to the consumer,
The Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Business and Trade organized several inspection campaigns on shops selling blankets, based on received information, and seized a number of shops selling counterfeit blankets that do not conform to the standard specifications, and that hold notation on the cover stating that the country of origin is (Korea), while the true country of origin of the commodity is (China), which is considered a violation of the provisions of Article No. (7) of Law No. (8) for the year 2008, on consumer protection, which stipulates that:
“Provider, once offering any merchandise for circulation, shall be obliged to state on its cover or packing clearly the merchandise’s type, nature, ingredients and all relevant data as per the executive regulation of this Law. If the use of this merchandise results in a danger, the provider should warn about that clearly”.
AndArticle No. (13) of the same law, which states that:
“Provider shall warrant that the merchandise or the service provided to the consumer shall be complied with the declared adopted standards. They shall be also accountable for incompliance with the conditions relating to public health and safety”.
An official source in the CPD affirmed that department has reached the distributor of such blankets who admitted the crime, adding that penalties were issued to all shops where these products were captured.
He also stressed that the Consumer Protection Department will spare no effort in working to detect fake and counterfeit products that do not conform to the standards through its inspection campaigns organized on all commercial activities.
