H.E The Minister of Economy and Commerce meets with heads of international organizations and lawyers from a legal firm specialising in WTO issues in Geneva

HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce states:
 The measures taken by the siege countries are in violation of international laws and conventions, and are contrary to intellectual property rights and the trade facilitation agreement, which stipulates the need to ensure that no obstacles are added to trade between the member countries.The State of Qatar, under the wise guidance of His Highness the Emir, has taken all measures to address the illegal siege, ensure the provision of goods and services, and maintain the stability of Qatari markets.The State of Qatar has contracted with a legal firm specializing in World Trade Organization (WTO) issues to study all illegal measures taken by the siege countries against the State of Qatar.Qatari and non-Qatari companies located in Qatar will sue the siege countries and claim compensation for losses incurred.The Minister of Economy and Trade confirms the strength of the Qatari economy and its ability to meet and overcome the current challenges.
HE Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, and his accompanying delegation met  with a number of presidents of international economic and trade organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the crisis caused by the siege countries against the State of Qatar which has resulted in arbitrary measures such as travel bans, border closures, and air, land and sea ports closures with the State, in violation of international laws, conventions and norms, as well as a number of international, regional and local principles, conventions, provisions and laws.
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce stressed that these measures are also contrary to the principles and provisions of World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, especially the most-favoured-nation principle, which stipulates that no goods should be discriminated against by any member state compared to other goods and services, whether produced within the importing State or exported from any other State.
HE The Minister pointed out that the measures taken by the siege countries are contrary to intellectual property rights and the trade facilitation agreement, which stipulates the need to ensure that no obstacles are added to trade between member countries.
 
Illegal measures taken by the siege countries
 
HE stressed that these countries have suddenly, without prior notice, and without resorting to the use of the mechanisms adopted by international organisations, as stipulated in international, regional and bilateral agreements, closed all their land, sea and air ports to the State of Qatar.
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce said that the siege countries had gone further to embargo passage of Qatari aircraft through their air spaces; prohibited ships loaded with goods from traders and Qatari companies located in these countries or destined for the State of Qatar to enter their ports, provided that such goods are returned to the country of origin; prohibited exportation of their national products to the State of Qatar; and prohibited national or foreign service companies located in their territories to deal with Qatari companies, while preventing postal and transportation companies from operating through their territories to the State of Qatar.
In addition, banks and financial companies were barred from dealing in Qatari riyals, and Qatari businessmen and companies were prevented from disposing of their property and goods in warehouses and free zones in these countries. Further, the siege countries are considering more means to harm the Qatari economy, HE the Minister added.
These countries have also placed restrictions on Qatari investments, including the closure of Qatari companies, the expulsion of their managers, and the prevention of Qatari investors from disposing of their property, without any compensation for losses.
HE the Minister said that the State of Qatar, under the wise guidance of  His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, has taken all measures to address the illegal siege, ensure the provision of goods and services, and maintain the stability of Qatari markets. The Minister added that Qatar is succeeding in that regard.
 
 
A firm specialized in World Trade Organization (WTO) legal disputes
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce and his accompanying delegation also met with a group of lawyers from a firm specialising in World Trade Organization (WTO) legal disputes. The firm was hired to study all the illegal measures taken by the siege countries against the State of Qatar.
HE the Minister also met with Roberto Azevedo, director general of the World Trade Organisation; professor Klaus Schwab, president of the World Economic Forum; and Dr Francis Gurry, director general of the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce said that the state of Qatar will take all the necessary legal measures and will seek to file lawsuits against the siege countries with international organisations and regional and international courts.
HE the Minister added that these countries are required to compensate the Qatari private sector for the losses incurred, which are estimated at large sums of money, pointing out that non-Qatari companies operating in the State of Qatar may sue the siege countries and claim compensation for losses incurred. 
The Qatari economy is able to overcome current challenges quickly and effectively
 
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce highlighted the strength of the Qatari economy and its ability to meet and overcome the current challenges, noting that the State of Qatar has formulated clear plans and strategies according to the pillars laid down by His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to provide all decent means of living for citizens and residents.
HE the Minister pointed out that many international reports confirmed that Qatar is the leading economy in the Middle East and North Africa. He said Qatar’s gross national savings, equivalent to 56% of the country’s GDP, is the highest in the world.
HE The Minister of Economy and Commerce said that as part of its efforts to diversify the national economy and boost the productive base, Qatar has sought to strengthen cooperation with its commercial partners to attract national and foreign investments and facilitate the flow of goods and services to the country’s markets.
