HE SheikhJassim bin Abdulazizal-Thani, Minister of Business and Trade,paid an inspectiontour of the new port project inMessaieed, yesterday Tuesday 19/02/2013.HE was accompanied by a number of high-ranked officials among them are HE Sheikh Ali Bin Jassim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Navigation Company, and HE Mr. Abdul Aziz Al-Nueimi, President of the Steering Committee of thePort Project, in addition to Mr. Ahmad Al-Mass, General Manager of Qatar Ports Management Company.
The minister was briefed onthe progress made at the projectand the steps being taken tocomplete it by 2016.The steering committee of theport project also presented anexplanation on the policy of procurement,supply and contractsin the port. The minister toured the site and got acquainted with latest developments.
Then Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani presided over a meeting of the membersof the team in charge of the operational plan of the port.They discussed the ad-hoc strategy for an efficient operation mechanismbased on global practices aimed at the best and most efficient exploitationof the port’s capacity.
The minister affirmed that the project represents a port of great importanceas it will support the growth of the local economy and competitivedomestic trade and trade with neighboring countries.He urged all parties concerned to provide support to ensure completionof the project in a way that reflect progress already achieved and witnessedin all areas in Qatar.
