HE Minister of Business and Trade’s Second Debate Session with Qatari Businessmen

In the presence of HE / Sheikh Jassim Bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani, Minister of Business and Trade, the ministry’s monthly debate session was held on Tuesday, 07/03/2012, in the presence of HE / Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association, HE / Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, the Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), HE / Sheikh Hamad Bin Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani, the Chairman and Managing Director of the Gulf Bank, Mr. / Mohammad Bin Ahmad Bin Tawar Al- Kuwari, QCCI’s vice chairman, and a number of the ministry officials and Qatari businessmen. 
The debate session focused on the construction sector in the State of Qatar and the key role of the private sector in the growth of this sector, as well as the ways the government supports the development of the outputs of that sector.
HE / Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz Al Thani opened the session by discussing the main points that were implemented among the results of the first debate session on warehouses, and he stressed over the importance of concerted efforts between the state institutions and the Qatari businessmen to promote business and trade sectors in the country. HE has stressed also the need to create strong companies capable of handling the development plan in the country.
He expressed full commitment and obligation to provide full support and assistance to the Qatari private sector including the Qatari businessmen who represent the real nucleus for development in the local economy, the matter which would produce positive outcomes on the technical and material outlets of the development projects.
HE Sheikh / Jassim Bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani stressed the importance of working to create local construction companies and support them in all possible ways to be able to compete to the execution of projects outside the state.
For their parts, Their Excellences from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and from the Qatari Businessmen Association talked about a number of barriers that face that growth of the local construction sector, and it was exposed during the session a number of recommendations and reform procedures that both parties can implement, especially in regards to the tenders policies, loan support, and transfer of knowledge to the local market, in addition to the procedures of projects’ implementation.  
HE Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association said, “This session reflected the keenness of HE the Minister of Business and Trade to support the Qatari businessmen and companies and the sincerity among officials in supporting business and trade sectors”.
The chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association spoke about the main obstacles faced by the local construction companies in the competition for development projects in the state, and the cons of relying on foreign execution of those projects.
For his part, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) praised the efforts of the Ministry of Business and Trade, indicating that HE the Minister expressed his full cooperation and support to provide all opportunities for local construction companies and Qatari businessmen.
