Minister of Economy and Commerce meets Assistant United States Trade Representative

HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassem bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, met on Monday, January 29, 2018, with Mr. Dan Mullaney, Assistant United States Trade Representative in Washington, DC.
 
The meeting which took place on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue was also attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to US, H.E Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani.
 
Discussions touched on the latest developments regarding the Qatar-US Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meetings, as well as the assessment of memoranda of understanding and cooperation in various sectors.
 
The Minister also invited U.S. official to hold the next meeting of the Qatari-American Council in Doha before the end of the year.
 
Qatar and the U.S. enjoy close economic and trade relations, including joint investments in the fields of oil and gas.
 
In April 2004, Qatar and the U.S. signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement. Qatari-US bilateral trade reached around $6 billion in 2017.
 
More than 102 fully owned U.S. companies and over 505 joint Qatari-U.S. firms operate in the engineering, consulting, contracting, IT, commerce and services sectors in Qatar while 40 U.S. companies are licensed under the umbrella of the Qatar Financial Centre.
