Minister of Economy and Commerce meets U.S. Secretary of Treasury

HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassem bin Mohammed Al -Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, met on Monday, January 29, 2018, in Washington, DC, with H.E Mr. Steven Mnuchin, U.S. Secretary of Treasury. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue.
 
Discussions touched on the promotion of bilateral economic and investments ties and the prospects of joint trade and economic cooperation.
 
Qatar and the U.S. enjoy close economic and trade relations, including joint investments in the fields of oil and gas.
 
The United States ranked as Qatar’s top trade partner in terms of imports in 2017 with Qatar acquiring 16% of its imports from the United States.
 
In April 2004, Qatar and the U.S. signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement. Qatari-US Bilateral trade has reached around $6 billion.
 
More than 102 fully owned U.S. companies and over 505 joint Qatari-U.S. firms operate in the engineering, consulting, contracting, IT, commerce and services sectors in Qatar while 40 U.S. companies are licensed under the umbrella of the Qatar Financial Centre.
