Minister of Economy and Commerce meets with Chairman of the US-Qatar Business Council

HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassem bin Mohammed Al -Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, met on Monday, January 29, 2018, in Washington, DC, with H.E Ambassador Anne Patterson, Chairman of the US-Qatar Business Council. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue.
 
Discussions touched on promoting relations between the Qatari and US private sectors in various sectors and the latest development relating to the US-Qatar Business Council. The U.S. side also elaborated on the council’s proposed plan for the upcoming period.
 
HE Ambassador Anne Patterson has been appointed as Chairman of the US-Qatar Business Council in 2018 after the Ministry of Economy and Commerce signed last September a letter of intent for cooperation between the Ministry and the Council in several fields.
 
Qatar and the U.S. enjoy close economic and trade relations, including joint investments in the fields of oil and gas.
 
In April 2004, Qatar and the U.S. signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement.
 
Bilateral trade between the two countries reached around $6 billion in 2017.
 
More than 102 fully owned U.S. companies and over 505 joint Qatari-U.S. firms operate in the engineering, consulting, contracting, IT, commerce and services sectors in Qatar while 38 U.S. companies are licensed under the umbrella of the Qatar Financial Centre.
