Minister of Economy and Commerce meets with U.S. Secretary of Commerce

H.E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassem bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, met on January 30, 2018, with H.E Mr. Wilbur Ross, U.S. Secretary of Commerce. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue in Washington, DC.
 
Discussions touched on the promotion of economic, trade and investment bilateral ties. During the meeting, Qatar’s Minister of Economy and Commerce touched on the outcome of the session on bolstering bilateral trade and investment within the framework of the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue.
 
For his part, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce hailed the Qatari economy’s performance and expressed his country’s satisfaction with the status of U.S. companies in Qatar. The U.S. official noted that American companies operating in Qatar face no obstacles while highlighting the contribution of Qatari investments in the U.S. to the creation of jobs for American citizens.
 
Qatar and the U.S. enjoy close economic and trade relations, including joint investments in the fields of oil and gas.
 
In April 2004, Qatar and the U.S. signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement.  Bilateral trade between the two countries reached 6 billion in 2017.
 
More than 102 fully owned U.S. companies and over 505 joint Qatari-U.S. firms operate in the engineering, consulting, contracting, IT, commerce and services sectors in Qatar while 40 U.S. companies are licensed under the umbrella of the Qatar Financial Centre.
