Ministry of Business and Trade Announces New Regulations on Shishas in Cafes

May 13, 2012

The Ministry of Business and Trade has announced a new set of regulations on the smoking of shisha in cafes.
It is now mandatory for cafes which offer shishas to avoid the spread of the smoke emanating from them to the entire premises. Secondly licenses granted previously should not be sold or transferred to a third party.
The Ministry may issue new licenses to applicants who wish to set up shisha cafes in selected areas, especially of interest to tourists. By and large the new regulations seek to restrict the use of shisha smoking in view of its harmful effects on health and environment.
People who desire to have their own cafes where shisha is offered should refer to the Department of Registration and Commercial Licenses at the Ministry of Business and Trade to submit the needed documents before obtaining the license.
