Qatar and Maldives Sign Agreement on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation

The State of Qatar and the Republic of the Maldives Signed on Monday 15/04/2013 an agreement on economic, trade and technical cooperation. The Agreement was signed for the State of Qatar by HE the Minister of Business and Trade Sheikh Jassim bin Abdul-Aziz Al Thani, and for the Republic of the Maldives by the Minister of Economic Development Ahmed Mohamed.
The cited agreement aims to establish a framework of cooperation between the two countries, and facilitate transport and construction on the basis of equality and mutual benefits. It also helps to facilitate cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, energy and tourism in addition to small and medium-scale enterprises and communication, besides encouraging private sector and businessmen to explore the prospects of establishing project in the fields referred to in the agreement.
HE the Minister of Businesses and Trade said that the actual volume of trade between the two countries does not reflect the reality and depth of the existing relations between the two countries, adding that the agreement signed today will open genuine opportunities for establishing real projects within the fields of cooperation.
It should be noted that the Maldivian Economic development Minister is currently visiting Doha to discuss aspects of economic, trade and investment cooperation between Qatar and the Maldives.
