The Ministry of Economy and Commerce announced an initiative of granting licenses to practice business activities at home.

– Initiative is designed to regulate the business environment and create an encouraging investment environment for entrepreneurs and small business owners to encourage and motivate them towards production and self-employment
– The activities that can be practiced at home include: sewing, events services, electronic services, business services, cosmetic activities and food activities.
– The granted license should only be tied  to one activity only. In other words, the person should not hold more than one license per home.
– The commitment to place an informative board at the entrance of the house which shows the brand name of the activity and the license number.
  The desired business activity to be licensed shall not affect the traffic in the area, or cause disturbance to the residents of the area.
The commitment not to engage in direct sales to the public from the house.
– 1020 QR annual fees for issuing business license.
 
As part of the efforts of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to regulate the business environment and create an encouraging investment environment for entrepreneurs and small business owners to encourage and motivate them towards production and self-employment and after issuing  the Ministry’s  decision No. 242 for 2016 regarding the guidelines, requirements and procedures for granting licenses to practice  business activities at home, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce announced an initiative of granting licenses to practice business activities at home. The initiative grant licenses to practice business activities at home that do not require high costs, depend on personal skills, do not utilize disturbing equipment or hazardous materials and aimed to make profit and provide living costs to the licensee and his family.
This initiative aims to regulate practicing business activities at home, opening up areas for entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses and encourage them to be creative and develop and support their abilities and ideas, to invest in their own projects through allowing them to engage in certain business activities from their homes, which constitute a motive for the expansion and development of their projects and the opening of shops that will contribute to the economic development and economic diversity.
The initiative for granting licenses to practice business activities at home identified the permitted activities that can be practiced at home which include: sewing, events services such as (filming weddings and events, creating antiques and gifts, preparing and packaging gifts, designing cards and gifts by hand, and coordinating natural and artificial flowers) in addition to electronic services which include (electronic computer-based designs with the exception of engineering designs which falls within the speciality of engineering companies), and business services such as cooking services, copying, packaging and binding school textbooks, and cosmetic activities such as the preparation of perfumes, dkhoun and beauty products, in addition to food activities such as preparation of coffee, spices and meals.
The ministry has identified the general conditions for granting licenses to practice business activities at home such as the applicant should be at least 18 years old , and a resident of the house. In addition, the desired business activity, to grant a license for should be among other activities with operational specifications that are consistent with the residential life, and the urge to obtain the necessary approvals to practice the requested business activity from the competent authorities, and to provide a completion of construction certificate along with the application as well as a civil defence certificate in the case of cooking activity.
The initiative identified general regulations for granting licenses to practice business activities at home which include: the license should be tied to one activity only and the person should not hold more than one license per home, the commitment to place an informative board at the entrance of the house which shows the brand name of the business activity and the license number, the obligation not to display any advertising or promotional boards or flags or any striped boards either on the house or its exterior walls, and the activity to be licensed shall not affect traffic in the area, or cause disturbance to residents of the area or increase waste, and the commitment not to engage in direct sales to the public from home i.e. home delivery.
Regarding business license fees, which has to be obtained every year, it has been set to be 1020QR.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce called all concerned entrepreneurs and small business owners to abide by the regulations, requirements and procedures for granting a licenses to practice business activities at home and urged them to provide innovative products and a variety of services through practicing business activity that will add a commercial and positive value in the region.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has launched several initiatives in order to regulate the business environment and create a conducive investment environment for the private sector and entrepreneurs, such as the initiative to regulate street vendors’ businesses.
