12 Jun 2024

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the launch of a new digital ration card, aimed at facilitating the process of obtaining monthly allocations of foods and fodder. This service comes as part of the ministry's efforts to use e-services to improve the efficiency of distributing rationed materials to citizens. The digital card is designed to give the holder ease and security of use. It can be downloaded through a mobile application, allowing the holder to easily obtain their rationed materials and fodder while on the move. Additionally, users can send the card to a third party to receive the materials on their behalf, providing greater flexibility for families and individuals in managing their needs. Furthermore, the digital ration card has advanced security features, with each card carrying a unique barcode and a secret number that is valid for no more than five minutes, ensuring data protection and reducing the likelihood of unauthorized use. The ministry explained that these measures enhance confidence in the electronic system and ensure that support reaches only those who are entitled to it. The ministry affirmed that this digital transformation is part of a wider plan to improve services provided to citizens and simplify procedures, noting that the new system will help reduce congestion at traditional distribution outlets and achieve greater fairness in the distribution of rationed materials.
