Ministry of Commerce and Industry Organises Training Workshop on “Geographical Indications” in Cooperation with the GCC Intellectual Property Training Center

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the GCC Intellectual Property Training Center, held a two-day training workshop on “Geographical Indications” from 2 to 3 December 2025, with participation from the relevant Ministry departments.

The workshop aimed to enhance staff expertise in geographical indications and appellations of origin. Sessions covered several key topics, including an introduction to geographical indications, the Lisbon System for the international protection of appellations of origin, the Geneva Act, requirements and procedures for international registration, procedures for refusing or granting protection, and the inclusion of Arabic as a working language within the international registration systems administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The workshop is part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen Qatar’s intellectual property framework and to equip the staff with the skills needed to keep pace with global developments and best practices in the protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin.
