04 Dec 2025

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched an awareness programme comprising a series of workshops targeting priority sectors of the economy. The initiative aims to help companies better understand the provisions of the Protection of Competition and Prevention of Monopolistic Practices Law and its Executive Regulations, and to encourage voluntary compliance with the relevant legislation, thereby reducing the risk of legal liability.

This initiative comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to promote a fair, transparent and competitive marketplace, and to ensure companies operate in line with national regulatory standards.

The opening workshop featured the key provisions of Law No. (19) of 2006 on the Protection of Competition and Prevention of Monopolistic Practices, covering the law’s objectives, prohibited practices, penalties for non-compliance and mechanisms for voluntary correction. It also highlighted the risks posed by anti-competitive behaviour and the tools available to address such conduct, underscoring the importance of embedding a culture of fair competition across the economy.

The programme brought together companies from a range of sectors, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to exchanging knowledge and promoting best regulatory and legal practices in the field of competition.

The workshop concluded with recommendations to enhance cooperation between the Ministry and the private sector and to continue regular awareness programmes that aim to reinforce a more competitive, equitable and sustainable business environment in Qatar.
