The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in cooperation with the Empowerment and Care Center for the Elderly “Ehsan,” organized an awareness workshop targeting members of the center, as part of its efforts to enhance awareness of consumer rights and promote a culture of sound purchasing practices.

The workshop was organized within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to familiarize participants with their rights as consumers and provide them with essential information to support informed purchasing decisions. The introductory program included a presentation on the Ministry’s Consumer Protection Sector, highlighting its affiliated departments and the scope of work of each.

The workshop also featured a detailed explanation of consumer rights stipulated in Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection, in addition to outlining the key obligations of suppliers and the regulatory requirements related to goods and services.

The workshop focused on promoting responsible consumer behavior, including guidance on selecting products in a safe and appropriate manner, thinking carefully before making purchasing decisions, and identifying potential risks through understanding hazardous products or improper use. Participants were also guided on the proper methods for addressing issues they may encounter when purchasing goods or benefiting from services, as well as the mechanisms for submitting complaints to the relevant authorities.

The awareness workshop concluded with a field visit to one of the shopping malls, during which participants were introduced to sound purchasing practices and applied the knowledge gained during the workshop in a practical setting.
