The State of Qatar participated in the ministerial roundtable meeting on the mineral resources sector, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of the fifth edition of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF), held under the theme “Minerals for a New Era of Development ,” from 13 to 15 January 2026 in Riyadh.
Heading the Qatari delegation was H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, alongside a number of ministers and representatives of delegations and regional and international organizations concerned with the mining sector.
Discussions addressed several strategic themes related to the future of the minerals sector, including enhancing the role of minerals in supporting sustainable economic development, developing international cooperation to secure supply chains and build capacities, reviewing G20 outcomes, infrastructure financing mechanisms, and initiatives related to supply chain traceability and standards harmonization, while emphasizing the importance of partnership between governments and the private sector.
Participation also included the 10th Consultative Meeting of Arab Ministers Concerned with Mineral Resources, during which key achievements of the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization were reviewed. Topics examined included the guiding roadmap for energy transition minerals in the Arab region, the Arab initiative for artificial intelligence in the mineral resources sector, the unified glossary of mining terminology, and the official launch of the digital library for Arab mining studies.
Attendance extended to the opening of the International Mining Conference.
On the sidelines of the conference, H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed met with H.E. Mr. Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing the trade partnership between the State of Qatar and the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, increasing trade exchange, and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in the field of foreign trade.
A visit to Riyadh Expo 2030 was also conducted, during which an overview of the exhibition and preparations for the global event was provided.
