The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, is implementing the “Consumer School 2026” initiative under the slogan “The Smart Consumer”, for the second consecutive year as part of its 2025–2026 edition. This initiative falls within the Ministry’s efforts to promote sound consumer culture and enhance awareness of consumers’ rights and responsibilities.

The program includes the participation of 20 schools across various educational stages for both boys and girls. Activities include student visits to the headquarters of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as well as field visits to a number of schools. During these visits, the specialized team delivers awareness programs, interactive presentations, and educational activities related to consumer protection and combating commercial fraud.

Through this initiative, the Ministry seeks to instill concepts of responsible consumption, rational spending, and informed product selection, while educating students about their rights and obligations as consumers. It also aims to enhance students’ critical thinking and decision-making skills prior to purchase. In addition, awareness is raised regarding complaint submission mechanisms and the relevant authorities, contributing to the preparation of a conscious generation that understands the impact of consumer behavior on the national economy, society, and the environment.

As part of the initiative, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company participated by providing an interactive educational corner for students that simulates a cooperative retail shopping environment, enabling students to practically apply the concepts they have learned.

The initiative also covered a range of awareness topics, most notably: defining the consumer and the supplier, goods and services, consumer rights, supplier obligations, and the harmful effects of commercial fraud. Practical guidance was provided, along with an explanation of complaint submission mechanisms through smartphone applications, using an interactive educational approach that included games, competitions, and hands-on activities.
