The Ministry of Commerce and Industry carried out a wide, unannounced inspection campaign at Al Sailiya Central Market for fruits and vegetables, as part of its ongoing efforts to monitor suppliers’ compliance with laws and regulations governing commercial activities.
The campaign resulted in the detection of three commercial violations. Two were related to non-compliance with declared prices and commercial fraud, while the third involved the use of folded cartons placed inside vegetable boxes, reducing their actual capacity and the real weight received by consumers for the price paid.
Legal action has been taken against the violators, and they have been referred to the competent authorities in accordance with applicable legislation.
The Ministry stated that such practices constitute a clear violation of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection, which prohibits the display, sale, or advertisement of goods in a manner that includes false or misleading information that may deceive consumers.
It further stressed that it will take firm action against any party failing to meet its legal obligations, reaffirming its commitment to intensifying inspection and control campaigns to address practices that harm consumer rights and negatively impact the national economy.
Consumers were also urged to cooperate by reporting any violations observed in the market through the following channels:
• Call Center: 16001
• Ministry’s social media accounts: @MOCIQATAR
