H.E. Undersecretary of Ministry of Commerce and Industry participates in official opening ceremony of Hannover Messe 2022 & inaugurates Qatar’s pavilion

The State of Qatar organized a distinguished pavilion comprising 16 public and private bodies specialized in the industrial field.

His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Rashid AlKhater, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry participated in the opening ceremony of the Hannover Messe International Industrial Fair 2022, which was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr Olaf Scholtz, German Chancellor, and His Excellency Mr Antonio Costa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Portugal, the guest country for this year’s edition, held from May 30 until June 2, 2022, in Hanover, Germany.

The opening ceremony featured the attendance of a number of Qatari Excellencies, senior officials, and participating businessmen, as well as many leaders and political figures, and a large number of CEOs of major leading industrial companies around the world.

Moreover, H.E. Mr AlKhater inauguratedQatar’s pavilion at the Hannover Messe 2022. The inauguration ceremony of Qatar’s pavilion saw the attendance of Qatari and German officials, alongside German and international media.

In a statement on this occasion, H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said: “Qatar’s participation in this year’s Hannover Fair is of great importance, especially as it is the largest international industrial, trade, and investment event, organized physically since the Covid-19 outbreak. The State’s participation in this global event reflects its keenness to consolidate the principles of economic openness and enhance bilateral cooperation with its various strategic partners around the world, especially the Republic of Germany. It also translates Qatar’s desire to build bridges of communication between government and private industrial bodies in Qatar on the one hand and investors and businessmen from around the world on the other, to establish successful investment partnerships. 

The fair provides an important opportunity for Qatari businessmen, investors and officials of major national companies to learn about the latest innovations and industrial technologies, in addition to comprising a chance for the participating parties to promote their products in new markets, H.E.explained.

Organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and spanning an area of about 821 square metres, Qatar’s pavilion features 16 government and private sector agencies specialized bodies in the industrial field, including: the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, Qatar Free Zones Authority, Qatar Science and Technology Park, Qatar Chamber, Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Financial Centre, Qatari Businessmen Association, Qatar Mobility Innovations Center, in addition to a number of private companies such as the Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company, Doha Cables, Q-Tec Switchgear, Snoonu, Qterminals, Suhail Holding Group, and Seashore Group.

Distinctive projects and initiatives in State of Qatar pavilion

The activities of Qatar’s pavilion features a session entitled ‘The future is now: Qatar’s prospects for global company growth’, organized by the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, with the participation of a number of investment stakeholders in Qatar, including Qatar Science and Technology Park, Qatar Free Zones Authority, and Qatar Financial Centre. This discussion session aims to shed light on the business environment in the State of Qatar and the incentives and benefits offered to investors.  

The entities participating in the State of Qatar pavilion shall preview the most prominent Qatari initiatives, projects, services, and products, as well as the promising investment opportunities, incentives, and privileges available to investors and businessmen to enter the Qatari market and expand towards regional ones.

The State’s pavilion also sheds light on the leading Qatari industries and the latest technologies and technological developments in the industrial sector in the country. The Hannover International Industrial Fair comprises a significant opportunity to exchange expertise and experiences, introduce Qatari companies and industries, and blaze a trail for creating distinctive partnerships between Qatari and international companies, enhancing cooperation between them, in addition to introducing the most prominent global experiences, and significant technical development in the industrial sector.

Characteristics of Qatar’s investment environment

During its participation in the Industrial Fair, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry presents the characteristics of Qatar’s investment environment, as well as the laws and legislation passed to stimulate local and foreign investment, including the law regulating the investment of non-Qatari capital in economic activity, and the law regulating public-private partnership, in addition to reviewing the incentives and advantages that have been provided to investors, such as exempting foreign invested capital from income tax for up to ten years for specific investment projects in many sector; and providing exemption from customs taxes and fees when importing equipment and raw materials. The Ministry also introduces the services provided to investors to facilitate procedures pertaining to investment applications, establishing companies, and completing transactions.

The Ministry also shines a spotlight on the investment opportunities available in the industrial sector, as well as the goals it seeks to achieve by 2030, and growth projections of the industrial sector. Additionally, the pavilion introduces the Ministry’s role in developing industrial zones, and regulating the process of allocating industrial plots to investors holding industrial licenses.

This year’s edition of the Hannover Messe  is being held in person for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak. This edition sheds light on industrial transformation, especially digitization and sustainability, owing to their role in supporting the development of the industrial sector and the business environment.

The program of the four-day event includes a number of dialogue sessions that highlight a wide range of topics such as industrial automation, cloud technologies, digital infrastructure, data management, digital platforms, robotics, information security technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energies, green hydrogen, as well as efficient energy use, CO2-neutral production, digital energy management, and the economy alongside other important areas.

The world’s largest industrial forum, the Hannover Messe International Industrial Fair attracts the largest production companies globally. Moreover, it is the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology, offering a chance to see an integrated set of technical innovations and smart solutions in all areas related to the industrial sector. Moreover, it comprises an opportunity to communicate with a large number of decision-makers in the industrial field, in addition to exchanging expertise and experiences, thus enhancing cooperation and forming joint projects.
