His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, the Minister of Commerce & Industry and Acting Minister of Finance, chaired the delegation of the state of Qatar participating in the eighth annual SelectUSA Investment Summit 2021, organized via video conferencing, from June 7 until June 11.

Qatar’s delegation participating in the virtual summit included officials from Qatar Investment Authority, Investment Promotion Agency of Qatar (IPA Qatar), Free Zones Authority, Hassad Food and Katara Hospitality.

H.E. Mr. Al Kuwari and the Qatari delegation viewed the first day’s activities of the plenary session, which featured broadcasting speeches by high-ranking United States government officials.

H.E. and Qatar’s delegation also participated in the second day’s activities within the plenary session, which included broadcasting the speech of the President of the United States of America, Mr. Joe Biden, as well as the addresses of H.E. the Secretary of State, Mr. Antony Blinken, and H.E. the Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Mrs. Gina Raimondo.

Qatar’s participation in the virtual version of the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2021 stems from its keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States of America, and to shed light on the investment opportunities available in the State of Qatar and the USA.

This year’s edition is taking place via video conferencing for the first time. It mainly highlights the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy and shines a spotlight on recovery efforts.

The summit features organizing more than 100 virtual sessions that touch on the shipping and logistics sector, investment opportunities in the USA, supply networks, investment trends in the field of modern technology, energy storage technologies for import and export, smart cities and trends in scientific research and development.

Giving special attention to senior government officials, chief business executives, the private sector and other entrepreneurs, the SelectUSA Investment Summit is the most prominent event aimed at encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States.

During its previous session, the summit attracted more than 3,000 participants from around 80 international markets.

Qatar and the United States have close economic and commercial ties that have been positively reflected on the volume of trade exchanged between the two countries. This amounted to approximately US $5.3 billion in 2020, with the United States ranking as Qatar’s fifth largest trading partner.
