Qatar and Saudi Arabia Hold the Second Annual Meeting to Advance Cooperation on Competition Protection

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the State of Qatar and the General Authority for Competition of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held the second annual meeting of the Joint Team tasked with following up on the implementation of initiatives and projects in the field of competition.

The meeting, which took place in Riyadh, aimed to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in promoting fair competition and preventing monopolistic practices.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms to further develop cooperation and exchange institutional expertise and best practices in the areas of competition protection and anti-monopoly measures. Discussions also addressed ways to advance relevant policies, enhance market efficiency, and strengthen the overall competitiveness of the business environment.

The participants reviewed the Saudi experience in the field of competition protection and explored opportunities to benefit from advanced professional expertise, in support of both countries’ efforts to establish a fair and sustainable economic environment.

Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation and exchanging experiences in this field. They also emphasised the need to strengthen joint mechanisms for future initiatives, including the follow-up of cross-border mergers between companies in both countries and the implementation of action programmes stemming from the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2024.

The meeting stressed the importance of intensifying efforts in the areas of training and institutional capacity-building, in order to promote economic integration and support the development of a competitive business environment.

This meeting comes as part of the ongoing constructive cooperation between the two countries and within the framework of joint efforts to enhance economic

integration and exchange institutional expertise. It reflects a shared commitment to strengthening a fair and competitive economic environment that supports sustainable development and advances performance in the field of competition at both the GCC and national levels, in line with the economic visions of the two countries.
