

The State of Qatar participated in the Sixty-Eighth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held in Geneva, with a delegation headed by Mr. Saleh Abdullah Al-Mana, Assistant Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
In Qatar’s statement before the Assembly, Mr. Saleh Abdullah Al-Mana affirmed the State’s commitment to continuing the development of its intellectual property system in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization. He noted that this contributes to promoting innovation and creativity, supporting the optimal use of artificial intelligence technologies, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. He also commended WIPO’s pivotal role in strengthening a balanced and effective international intellectual property system that serves the interests of Member States.
He further noted that cooperation between the State of Qatar and WIPO aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and supports the country’s efforts to build a knowledge-based economy by developing an enabling environment for creativity and investment in intellectual assets.
He also emphasized the importance of the technical and advisory support provided by WIPO to the State of Qatar in preparing the National Intellectual Property Strategy, which the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is currently working to finalize, in addition to developing the institutional framework for intellectual property in line with international best practices and standards.
On the sidelines of the session, the Qatari delegation held a number of bilateral meetings with delegations of Member States and representatives of international intellectual property offices. The meetings discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise across various areas of intellectual property, as well as prospects for partnership in support of mutual interests.
