The Ministry of Commerce and Industry organised a specialised workshop titled “Idea Factory – Innovation Engineering” in collaboration with the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council, aimed at strengthening innovation capabilities within the industrial sector. The workshop was held over three days and brought together factory managers, technical leaders, and research and development teams.

The initiative sought to support national factories in transforming industrial challenges into innovation opportunities, while enhancing the utilisation of the “Innolight” Innovation Lighthouse platform and Qatar’s wider research, development, and innovation ecosystem.

Interactive sessions combined theoretical discussions with practical application, enabling participants to develop design-thinking skills for analysing industrial challenges and explore rapid prototyping techniques for developing innovative solutions. Attendees were also introduced to mechanisms for activating these challenges through the “Innolight” platform, opportunities for collaboration within the State’s research and innovation ecosystem, and available funding tools aimed at transforming ideas into implementable industrial solutions.

The workshop forms part of the project linking factories with research centres and universities in Qatar, one of the initiatives under Qatar’s National Manufacturing Strategy.

The Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council is a national entity dedicated to supporting research, development, and innovation activities, as well as nurturing talent in these fields. The Council aims to position Qatar as a global hub for innovation and a preferred destination for research and development centres worldwide.
